Primary Care has had to adapt rapidly over the last few years. Increasing demand combined with funding cuts means we are all working harder than ever, but despite this we cannot keep up with appointment demand amid ongoing increasing costs and funding cuts.
If our trained staff are concerned your condition is an Emergency they may instruct you to attend A+E or call an Ambulance.
When you call to book an appointment the receptionist will triage your call. This is to help determine how quickly you need seen and also to ensure you are seen by the most appropriate person- “Right Person. Right Place.” In the practice GP’s work as a team with other Health Professionals. We valve the input of our Multi-Disciplinary team below, who can often be best placed to help you. We work closely together and often discuss any complex cases to best deal with patient care. Clinicians you may be directed to

- "Urgent” limited numbers of appointments for one urgent problem that cannot wait until the next available routine appointment. These are released daily.
We will continue to offer a combination of face to face and telephone appointments
We are delighted to welcome Medical Students. We also mentor local pharmacists and at times we may request permission for students to sit in on consultations. If you prefer to see the doctor alone please let them know.

Important Information About GP Appointment Times
At Stepps Surgery, our standard GP appointments are limited to 10 minutes per appointment. This allows us to provide focused, high-quality care for each patient and ensures we can see as many patients as possible. This time includes time to read notes, consult with patient, type up notes, write prescriptions and send any needed referrals.
If the clinician feels you require a further appointment to discuss complex or multiple issues, you will be advised of this during the appointment.
Please inform the reception team if you have multiple ailments, so they can help arrange the appropriate appointments to address your concerns if needed.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us provide the best possible care.
Please bear in mind that some decisions and diagnoses need face-to-face consultations for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Housebound Patients
If you are unable to attend the surgery due to mobility or health issues, the receptionist will arrange a telephone call with the GP to discuss your complaint.
This enables to GP to determine whether a house visit is needed or referral to another service is appropriate. Often initial treatment can be started with a telephone assessment which means quicker access to care.
